While skimming through a Washington State Travel Guide, contributor Natasa Krizanic saw these rolling hills and knew she needed to see the scenery in person.

In June 2013, she drove through the Palouse region and noticed this old barn nestled among the hills.

"The scenery had that 'old time' charm, so I hurried to take a photo of it before the barn vanished from the view," Krizanic says. With her Canon EOS Rebel T3 and 18-55 mm lens, she snapped this photo from a moving car.

After living in Washington for about 17 years, Krizanic will continue searching for beauty in her state.

"I think we often dream of visiting distant, exotic places that we sometimes miss simple beauty that can be found in our own backyard," Krizanic says.
