Your Take challenge: Negative space photography

Often simplicity creates the most stunning images.

For the next Your Take challenge, we want to see what you can achieve using the simplicity of negative space.

Negative space is the nondescript area that surrounds the main subject in a photo, like the sky behind a building or a wall behind a person or object. Negative space is often the largest portion of the photo's composition, but brings balance to the image because it directs the eye to look at the main subject.

Your Take's negative space challenge begins at 12:01 a.m. ET Saturday, March 7, and will close at 12:01 a.m. ET Monday, March 9. Contributors who submit five or more photos of their own work will have the chance to be featured in their own gallery.

Will you shoot indoors? Outdoors? Does the space around your image's focal point form an interesting shape? Which lens is best for capturing these types of photos? Show us how you put your signature on negative space.
